Happy 1st Birthday!

Where did the last year go?  Seriously?!  I cannot believe how fast this past year has gone.

I remember Joelee saying she cried on Quin's 1st birthday and I thought it was crazy.  Then, Lincoln turned 1.  I actually told Kirk "someday he's not going to need us anymore".  Ok, so I'm jumping the gun a little bit, but this year went so fast!  I just want to make sure we remember every single moment.

All day today Kirk and I were talking about where we were exactly one year ago.  I even woke up right around 2:30 a.m. which is the time I had my first contraction last year.  So weird!

I could go on and on about how in love we are with Lincoln, but I won't.  I will tell you he does make my world a better place.  Since having Lincoln, I have become a better person.  When I'm having a crummy day, knowing he'll be so happy to see me when I pick him up from day care keeps me going.  Seeing his little smiling face in the morning guarantees that even though I may have a crappy day, I always have something to look forward to.

Happy Birthday to our Lincy.  We look forward to everything you will bring us this year!

Birthday Party

I can't believe it.  Lincoln's first birthday is tomorrow.  I'm sure tomorrow I'll write a blog through tears.  It was a quick year!

Today we celebrated with our family.  Everyone came over here for the day.  There were a lot of people and a lot of kids!  Lincoln was so good today.  No matter how grumpy he is when it is just Kirk and I, he puts on a good show for everyone else.  We have to laugh when people tell how us what a happy baby Lincoln is and how they never see him crying...totally not true!  We are happy he is so good with other people and hope he'll always be so great with other people and save his crummy moods for us.

Lincoln received so many really nice gifts from everyone.  SO many toys!  We've been holding off on buying toys for him knowing his birthday was coming up.  I know he'll be so happy when he wakes up tomorrow and sees all the fun toys he got today.

The big surprise of the day (at least for me) was Lincoln devouring his birthday cake.  I was SURE he wouldn't tackle the cake.  In fact, I didn't even have a cake for him until this morning.  I had made cupcakes for everyone else and was just going to give Lincoln one of those with a candle and call it good.  I'm glad I didn't!  It took a couple minutes, but before long Lincoln dove right into his cake.

Lincoln was whipped!  He fell asleep within seconds of me putting him in his crib.  Thank you to everyone for the coming to the party.  We had so much fun!

Adventures in Babysitting

Yesterday, Joelee and Jason took the triplets on a shopping trip and left Quin with me.  I loved spending the day with a child I could communicate with!  She could tell me what she wanted to do (which our little Quinners doesn't hesitate to do), what she didn't want to do (no lack of this either), what she wanted to eat, etc., etc.  Did I mention she didn't stop talking the entire time?!  I love it, though!  Is there anything sweeter than the sound of a child's voice?  I love how Quin calls herself "Quinners".  Makes me smile!

Quin and I had big plans!  We stopped at Lincoln's day care so that she could see him, then went to lunch and then to "the beach" at Kensington.  We played in the sand and the water.  They also had a splash pad which I figured Quin would love!  Weeeelllll, she didn't.  We got into the splash pad area and she freaked out and wanted to go back into the sand.

After the beach we went to the petting zoo.  It was small but fun!  We saw sheep, a horse, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks and goats.  The only animal Quin actually got to pet was the sheep.  She's so brave!

We picked up Lincoln and headed home.  Quin loved on Lincoln (which I love) until Joelee and Jason brought the triplets over so they could stretch their little legs.  All 5 kids had fun hanging out together.  I love getting them all together especially now that they're a little bit older and can interact more.

Lincoln's birthday is Sunday.  It's so hard to believe he's going to be a year already!  Time flies when you're having fun!

We Have a CRAWLERRRR!!

Admittedly, we didn't push Lincoln to start crawling.  Kirk and I both figured crawling would come with time.  It's not like he was going to spend his life scooching around on his butt, rolling around or pivoting in a circle for the rest of his life.  Maybe we should have pushed him, but we knew with time, he'd start crawling.  Plus, I must admit, we both enjoyed sitting him down with his toys and being able to run around the house and get stuff done.

BUT, here we are 11.5 months into his short life and Lincoln has finally started crawling.  The people at day care told us he may slow down on the talking while he was working on crawling, but that hasn't slowed down at all either.  He's still yodeling as much as ever.  It's so stinkin' cute.

Anyway, last week Saturday we thought he was getting really close.  We bribed him with Gerber Lil' Crunchies.  He loves the Garden Tomato kind.  Seriously...LOVES THEM.  Kirk doesn't love them because he insists they give him bad breath.

The bribery worked!  Within just a couple minutes he was making his way over to his snacks!!

He's gotten better throughout the course of the week.  He's still not perfect, but I love the way he throws his hands on the ground.  It's awkward and he looks like he's going to tip over.  It's so cute!  I love how non-graceful he is.

Something else we've learned in the last week is that Lincoln thinks it's funny when people fall.  We were on the ground playing with him when I stood up, slipped and fell onto the ottoman.  He laughed at me!  He is my son!!  Take note: don't fall around him or there could be some inappropriate laughter.

Happy Weekend!
